Blog #6

I think Jim from the book is a real character, a real person. That is the way black people talked and acted at that time period becuse they were slaves and they counln't be eduated. I dont think Jim is a minstrel because the minsterls make fun of the people that are like that. So in a way i thinks minsterls represent Jim.. maybe an over played version of Jim, beceuse they are trying to make fun of him.

  1. Well, you explained this a lot better than i did haha. But yes i agree with you and this makes a lot of sense. They are making fun of him and acting like him.

  2. I think Jim has qualities that could both be seen in different ways. You could say he is depicted the way he is because African Americans weren't educated or you could say Jim is being depicted the way he is because of prejudice.

  3. That is true. Jim was very un-educated at that time BECAUSE of his skin color of course. Which impacted the way he spoke and conversed with others. Which also clearly shows in the book with Jims bad grammar and awkward sentences.
